Resurgent Medvedev Wins Maiden Championship in Over Two Years

19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 championships have been won on hard surfaces

A resurgent Medvedev claimed his first title for over two years with success over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament final.

The Russian, a former number one, has experienced a torrid year, achieving just one match at the big events and suffering a meltdown at the US Open.

The player's varied form on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his service game in particular - caused him exiting of the world's top 10 and eventually separating with long-term mentor Gilles Cervara.

Presently training with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, Medvedev has steadily improved in the last few weeks - climaxing in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over challenger Corentin Moutet.

It is the player's maiden trophy after the 2023 Rome Masters and initial on a hardcourt after spring of that year.

Victory also indicates the Russian has won 21 victories at 21 different tournaments.

"It's the first time I am participating in a competition with my two daughters together, so to win a title is especially meaningful," said ranked player Daniil Medvedev.

"This championship is in tribute of my younger daughter my daughter, because the maiden victory I achieved when my first daughter her name was born was for her."

The athlete, the past champion, had failed in his past six championship matches, featuring in Halle earlier this year.

Medvedev's retrieving play style and recurring reactions on court had led some to question if his skill to compete at the highest level was concluded.

However the player has altered his approach in recent weeks, attempting to come to the net and play aggressively, backed up by an better serve.

Medvedev recovered from a disadvantage in the initial set against the difficult opponent, winning 4 of the final five exchanges to gain the advantage.

The competitors traded service breaks in the second set before Moutet, striving for his initial tour title, gained dominance to force a third set.

The opponent rescued 4 initial opportunities in a tight deciding set before Medvedev secured a break to 15 to serve for the match.

Appropriately, Medvedev clinched the title with a shot at the net area, with the Frenchman unable to handle a shot after over two and a half hours.
